Isolated pulmonary valve endocarditis in a normal heart.
Isolated pulmonary valve endocarditis is a very rare entity, usually associated with intravenous drug abuse. We describe a case of isolated pulmonary valve endocarditis in a diabetic patient with no apparent precipitating factors besides a lesion on the right hallux. The clinical course was favorable and he was discharged home after a six-week course of antibiotic therapy.
متن کاملLysostaphin treatment of experimental methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus aortic valve endocarditis.
The emergence of clinical isolates of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus with reduced susceptibility to vancomycin has prompted a search for new and novel therapeutic agents active against S. aureus. Lysostaphin, a peptidase produced by Staphylococcus simulans, specifically cleaves the glycine-glycine bonds unique to the interpeptide cross-bridge of the S. aureus cell wall. The effecti...
متن کاملMoxalactam penetration into normal heart valve, cardiac vegetations, and myocardium in relation to protein binding and physiological distribution spaces.
Rabbits with catheters implanted in the left ventricle were given a single dose of moxalactam and sacrificed at various times thereafter for measurement of the concentration of this antimicrobial agent in serum, heart muscle, and various heart valves. Penetration into both extravascular sites was rapid; steady state was achieved within 5 min after the dose. Moxalactam showed essentially complet...
متن کاملProsthetic valve endocarditis: state of the heart
Prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) is a rare but serious complication of cardiac valve replacement surgery and is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Despite significant advances in our understanding of the pathogenesis and management of this disease process, the rates of undesirable outcomes, including mortality directly attributable to infection, remain unacceptably high. ...
متن کاملValve replacement for acute left heart endocarditis.
Between January 1982 and June 1993, 66 patients (48 men and 18 women of mean (range) age 50 (21-77) years) underwent valve replacement for acute infective endocarditis. There were 45 aortic valve and 17 mitral valve infections. Four patients had bivalvular involvement. Fifty-three patients suffered from native valve endocarditis, with underlying valvular lesions documented for 31 patients. Stap...
